About DIY Printing
Located just inside local artist hub Essex Art Studios in Walnut Hills, Cincinnati, DIY Printing is a full-service screen printing shop and art studio. Our goal at DIY Printing is to enrich the lives of artists by providing an open printing studio that supports and encourages the work of artists. DIY provides awareness, outreach and education for the community. Check out our Facebook page to see our latest events and visit our Etsy Shop for cool, new, hand-pulled art prints by select artists and a plethora of T-shirt designs done in-house.
We are an artist co-op that provides a silk screen studio for use by artists in the community. We not only cater to artists, we also print commercially to pay our bills. We want to support our tight knit community in as many ways as possible. We print T-shirts, posters, bags, promote the use of recycled packaging and creative design, and provide classes in collaboration with the Art Academy of Cincinnati for adults and teens who want to learn about screen printing.
CLASSES AND EVENTS
(Due to current circumstances, we ask that when you visit, you wear a mask, and are not currently experiencing any symptoms to keep yourself and others safe from Covid-19. We are currently limiting capacity at all classes to 6 participants)
SCREEN PRINTING 101:
Dates: 4 Consecutive Wednesdays in April, July, and September
Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Want to learn to screen print? Screen printing 101 teaches a basic screen printing technique which uses a 230 mesh aluminum screen to print ink onto paper, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a stencil created with emulsion. Over the four weeks, students will create their own unique design, and learn to burn the image onto a screen in preparation for printing. Students will then print a 2-3 color screen print by learning how to layer different colors of ink and using the technique of registration to get clean lines and clean prints.
MONOPRINTING WITH SILK SCREENS & PROCION DYES:
Dates: One night intensive May 18th, 2022
Time: 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Monoprinting is a painterly form of printmaking where the image is only intended to be made once, unlike most other printmaking techniques that allow for making multiple copies. There are many different types of monoprinting, and this class will explore the screen printing technique. This involves working directly on the screen using procion dyes, charcoal, and watercolor crayons to create a unique printed painting.
Calling all artists! DIY Printing will be hosting regular critique nights throughout 2022! These are open to the public, and a great way to get a second opinion on the direction of your artwork. Just bring your piece of artwork and a positive sense of constructive criticism to help fellow artists better their art, while getting input to better your own.
Dates: Friday, February 11th, April 15th, June 10th, August 12th, and October 14th
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
ESSEX STUDIO ART WALKS:
Art Walks are held several times throughout the year, where you will have the opportunity to visit our studio as well as many other artist studios. Meet the artists and view their work, all while enjoying food, drinks, and other entertainment.
